August 12 has no owner yet

On August 12, 1949, the Geneva Conventions were adopted — the four international treaties that establish the fundamental rules of international humanitarian law in times of war. Signed by almost every country in the world, they regulate the treatment of the wounded, prisoners of war and civilians in armed conflicts.

On August 12, 1960, NASA launched Echo 1, the first passive communications satellite in history: a 30-metre aluminium balloon that bounced radio signals between continents. It was also the first satellite visible to the naked eye from Earth, and millions of people around the world tracked it across the sky.

On August 12, 1990, palaeontologist Sue Hendrickson discovered in South Dakota the most complete Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton ever found, named Sue in her honour. The skeleton, with 90% of its bones intact, was sold at auction for more than 8 million dollars and is now on display at the Field Museum in Chicago.
