June 25 has no owner yet

On June 25, 1950, North Korean forces crossed the 38th parallel and invaded South Korea, starting the Korean War. UN intervention — led by the US — halted the North Korean advance. Three years later, the 1953 armistice restored the border at roughly the same place. The war never officially ended: the two Koreas remain technically at war.

On June 25, 2009, singer Michael Jackson — the "King of Pop" — died in Los Angeles at age 50, from an overdose of propofol administered by his personal physician. Jackson, who was preparing a comeback concert series, was the most commercially successful artist in music history: Thriller (1982) is the best-selling album of all time. His death was followed globally by millions of fans.

On June 25, 1991, Slovenia and Croatia declared independence from Yugoslavia, triggering the dissolution of Yugoslavia. The Ten-Day War in Slovenia ended quickly, but the war in Croatia and, above all, in Bosnia-Herzegovina, would continue for years causing more than 100,000 deaths. The fragmentation of Yugoslavia was the most violent process of geopolitical change in Europe since World War II.
