On February 5, 1917, the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States came into force — the world's first constitution to incorporate social rights — labour, education, land — in addition to classic political rights. Born from the Mexican Revolution, the constitution is considered a milestone of modern social constitutionalism. February 5 is celebrated as Constitution Day in Mexico.
On February 6, 1958, a plane carrying the Manchester United football squad crashed on takeoff at Munich airport, killing 23 people, including eight players from the squad known as the "Busby Babes". The tragedy deeply marked English football. Manager Matt Busby, seriously injured, survived and rebuilt the club until winning the European Cup in 1968.
On February 5, 1783, a devastating earthquake struck the Calabria region in southern Italy, killing between 30,000 and 50,000 people in a series of aftershocks that continued for months. The tremor destroyed hundreds of villages and transformed the region's landscape. It was the deadliest earthquake in modern Italian history and one of the most severe of the eighteenth century in Europe.
