On November 19, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address during the dedication of the national cemetery at the Gettysburg battlefield in Pennsylvania. In just 272 words and three minutes, Lincoln redefined the purpose of the Civil War as a struggle for equality and democracy. It is considered the most influential speech in American history.

On November 19, 1828, Zapotec indigenous man Benito Juárez was born in Oaxaca, who would become the first president of indigenous origin in Mexico and the symbol of the Liberal Reform. Juárez championed the separation of Church and State, the Reform Laws and resisted the French invasion. He is known as the "Benemérito de las Américas".

On November 19, 1977, Egyptian President Anwar Sadat arrived in Tel Aviv and became the first Arab leader to officially visit Israel. The gesture, unthinkable months earlier, was the beginning of the process that would lead to the Camp David Accords (1978) and the Egypt-Israel Peace Treaty (1979). Sadat paid with his life for this rapprochement: he was assassinated in 1981.
