1969

On November 20, 1969, Brazilian footballer Pelé scored his 1,000th career goal, becoming the only player in history to reach that milestone. The goal came from the penalty spot against Vasco da Gama at the Maracanã stadium. Pelé ended his career with 1,281 official goals and is widely considered the greatest footballer of all time.

On November 20, 1945, the Nuremberg Trials began in Nuremberg — the first international tribunal in history created to judge war crimes and crimes against humanity. Twenty-four Nazi leaders were prosecuted. Twelve were sentenced to death, seven to prison terms and three acquitted. The trials laid the foundations of modern international criminal law.
