What happened on May 2?
On May 2, 1519, Leonardo da Vinci died at the Château du Clos Lucé, Amboise, France, at age 67, in the arms of King Francis I of France, who had invited him to spend his final years at the French court. Leonardo died surrounded by his notebooks, his inventions and his paintings, including the Gioconda. He is considered the most complete human being who ever lived.
On May 2, 2011, American special forces (SEAL Team 6) killed Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden at his hideout in Abbottabad, Pakistan, ten years after the September 11 attacks. President Obama followed the operation live from the Situation Room of the White House. Bin Laden's body was buried at sea in the Arabian Sea. The news was celebrated in the streets of the US.
On May 2, 1945, Soviet forces completed the capture of Berlin, raising the red flag over the Reichstag. The Battle of Berlin, which lasted two weeks, was one of the bloodiest in the European theatre: more than 100,000 Soviet soldiers and between 100,000 and 150,000 German defenders died. The fall of the Third Reich's capital marked the effective end of World War II in Europe.

Theodor Herzl was a Hungarian Jewish journalist and lawyer who was the father of modern political Zionism. Herzl formed the Zionist Organization and promoted Jewish immigration to Palestine, which, in the late 19th century was part of the Ottoman Empire, in an effort to form a Jewish state. Due to his Zionist work, he is known in Hebrew as Chozeh HaMedinah, lit. 'Visionary of the State'.

Satyajit Ray was an Indian film director, screenwriter, author, lyricist, magazine editor, illustrator, calligrapher, and composer. He is widely considered to be one of the greatest and most influential film directors in the history of cinema.

Fred Lincoln "Link" Wray Jr. was an American guitarist, songwriter, and vocalist who became popular in the late 1950s. His 1958 instrumental single "Rumble" reached the top 20 in the United States, and was one of the earliest songs in rock music to use distortion and tremolo.

Faisal II was the last King of Iraq. He reigned from 4 April 1939 until July 1958, when he was killed during the 14 July Revolution. This regicide marked the end of the thirty-seven-year-old Hashemite monarchy in Iraq, which then became a republic.
