👶1990

June 1 is International Children's Day, established in 1950 to defend children's rights worldwide. In 1989, the UN adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child — the most widely ratified human rights treaty in history, with 196 signatory countries. Despite the agreement, millions of children continue to suffer poverty, labour exploitation and armed conflict.

☀️1921

On June 1, 1921, a white mob destroyed the Greenwood district of Tulsa, Oklahoma — known as "Black Wall Street" — in one of the worst racist attacks in American history. Over two days, 35 city blocks were burned, between 100 and 300 African Americans killed and 10,000 left homeless. The incident was suppressed by American history books for decades.

🎙️1980

On June 1, 1980, the American channel CNN (Cable News Network) began broadcasting — the first 24-hour live news channel. Founded by entrepreneur Ted Turner, CNN revolutionised television journalism by covering news in real time, as demonstrated during the Gulf War of 1991, when millions of people followed the Baghdad bombings live from their homes.
