June 8 has no owner yet

On June 8, 1949, English writer George Orwell published "Nineteen Eighty-Four" — the dystopian novel about a totalitarian state that controls thought, language and memory through Big Brother, Newspeak and doublethink. The novel, written while Orwell was dying of tuberculosis, became one of history's most influential warnings about the dangers of totalitarianism and mass surveillance.

On June 8, 793, Viking warriors from Norway attacked and plundered the monastery of Lindisfarne on the northeast coast of England — the first major documented Viking attack in Western Europe. The destruction of the monastery, one of the most important religious centres of Anglo-Saxon Christendom, shocked all of Europe and marked the beginning of the Viking Age, which would last until the eleventh century.

On June 8, 1968, James Earl Ray was arrested at Heathrow Airport in London, two months after murdering Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. in Memphis. Ray, who had escaped from a Missouri prison in 1967, was extradited to the US and sentenced to 99 years in prison. He never revealed whether he acted alone or if there was a conspiracy. He died in prison in 1998.
