🎨1940

On September 12, 1940, four young people from Montignac (France) accidentally discovered the Lascaux cave while searching for a missing dog. The cavern walls contained more than 600 cave paintings approximately 17,000 years old. Considered the Sistine Chapel of prehistoric art, it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

🇮🇱1993

On September 13, 1993, Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and PLO leader Yasser Arafat shook hands in the gardens of the White House after signing the Oslo Accords. It was the first mutual recognition between Israel and the PLO and the most hopeful moment in the Middle East peace process. Rabin was assassinated two years later.

⚔️1847

On September 13, 1847, the American army captured Chapultepec Castle, home of the Mexican Military Academy, in one of the most poignant episodes of the Mexican-American War. According to Mexican tradition, the Niños Héroes — six young cadets — chose to die rather than surrender, becoming symbols of national patriotism.
