What happened on November 2?
On November 2, 1988, graduate student Robert Morris released the first computer worm in internet history, paralysing some 6,000 computers connected to ARPANET. Morris was the first person convicted under the US Computer Fraud and Abuse Act. The incident revealed the fragility of interconnected networks and laid the foundations of modern cybersecurity.
On November 2, 1917, British Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour sent a letter to Zionist leader Walter Rothschild expressing the British government's support for the establishment of a national home for the Jewish people in Palestine. The Balfour Declaration had profound and lasting consequences for the Arab-Israeli conflict that continues to this day.
