🎵1847

On March 3, 1847, Scottish inventor Alexander Graham Bell was born in Edinburgh — credited with inventing the telephone in 1876. Bell had grown up in a family dedicated to elocution and communication with the deaf, and his invention emerged from this background. He was also a co-founder of AT&T and worked on early aviation technology.

🐳1973

On March 3, 1973, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) was signed in Washington D.C. — the first international treaty designed to regulate trade in endangered species. The convention entered into force in 1975 and today regulates the trade of more than 38,000 species of animals and plants.

🇧🇬1878

On March 3, 1878, the Russian Empire and the Ottoman Empire signed the Treaty of San Stefano, ending the Russo-Turkish War and creating a large Bulgarian state. The treaty, later revised at the Congress of Berlin, led to the independence of Bulgaria, Serbia, Romania and Montenegro. March 3 is celebrated today as Liberation Day in Bulgaria.
