What happened on September 4?
On September 4, 1970, Salvador Allende won the presidential election in Chile, becoming the first democratically elected socialist president in Latin America. His government pursued the nationalisation of copper and deep social reforms until he was overthrown by Augusto Pinochet's military coup on September 11, 1973.
On September 4, 1781, forty-four settlers founded the town of Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles del Río Porciúncula, known today as Los Angeles. The city, founded under Spanish rule in what would become California, is now the second most populous city in the United States and the world capital of cinema and entertainment.
On September 4, 1882, Thomas Edison switched on the Pearl Street Station in New York, the first commercial electric power station in history. It supplied electricity to 85 customers within a one-kilometre radius. It was the birth of the modern electrical grid and the beginning of the era in which electricity moved from laboratory curiosity to mass public utility.

Juliusz Słowacki was a Polish Romantic poet. He is considered one of the "Three Bards" of Polish literature — a major figure in the Polish Romantic period, and the father of modern Polish drama. His works often feature elements of Slavic paganism, Polish history, mysticism and orientalism. His style includes the employment of neologisms and irony.
Kenzō Tange
Kenzō Tange was a Japanese architect. Born in Sakai and raised in China and southern Japan, Tange was inspired from an early age by the work of Le Corbusier and designed his first buildings under Imperial Japan. He first achieved recognition for his projects to reconstruct the destroyed cities of postwar Japan, particularly Hiroshima, where he designed the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park.

Ivan Dominic Illich was an Austrian Catholic priest, theologian, philosopher, and social critic. His 1971 book Deschooling Society criticises modern society's institutional approach to education, an approach that he argued demotivates and alienates individuals from the process of learning.
Dallas Willard
Dallas Albert Willard was an American philosopher also known for his writings on Christian spiritual formation. Much of his work in philosophy was related to phenomenology, particularly the work of Edmund Husserl, many of whose writings he translated into English for the first time.
Merald "Bubba" Knight
Merald Woodlow "Bubba" Knight, Jr. is an American R&B/soul singer, best known as a member of Gladys Knight & the Pips. The older brother of lead singer Gladys Knight, Bubba Knight served as the unofficial leader of the family group, and was instrumental in handling the Pips' business matters. "Gladys Knight & The Pips" evolved out of the Pips.
